This is apparently a theme for me. Sometime, I will post the paper flowers that my friend Ashley made for her wedding...along with her awesome dress that I made!! But in the meantime, here are some goldfish cake toppers that I need, and some great paper flower bouquets! I love the texture and the whimsy of these!

Cassie's Wedding Dress, Part 2: The bodice

10/27/2010

I've been hard at work on Cassie's wedding dress...and as her wedding is this Saturday, I thought it'd be safe to post some more "in progress" photos, as her future husband will be seeing the finished product in just a few days.

There were a few more bodice fittings, but those pictures are pretty boring, so here are some pictures of the lace being appliqued to the bodice.  A bodice can be made out of solid lace fabric, but appliqueing the lace on this way hides all the seams and makes for a gorgeous finished look.

Picture
Just the middle section completed. Placing all the pieces of lace is kind of like putting together a jigsaw puzzle.
Picture
Carefully sewing each piece of lace to the bodice, careful to avoid all the beads and pearls!

The lace on the bodice, nearly complete.

One of the final bodice fittings before the skirt was attached and the zipper sewn in.  Isn't it gorgeous!?
Stay tuned for more on Cassie's wedding dress!

Cassie's Wedding Dress, Part 1

Well, I've been out of the blogging world for a few days, (I am going to have to set a real routine for myself with this blogging stuff!), but I have a good reason, wedding season!  So, I thought I'd  post about the current wedding dress I'm making!

I wasn't sure about posting throughout the dressmaking process, but I thought it might be interesting for you guys to see the progression of a custom made gown!

This is my future cousin, Cassie.  She's really petite and she had some great dress ideas in mind, so she asked me to make her dress, rather than trying to buy one off the rack.

We started working out ideas about this time last year, and her wedding is in October.  I got her into the first muslin mock-up a few weeks ago (we went through a few different styles!) and these pictures are from the first time she saw the lace I chose for her skirt.

Picture
She's wearing the muslin mock-up with her full petticoat, and we're just holding the lace over it to mimic the skirt.  Getting a dress made involves a lot of using-your-imagination during the creation process. :)

The dress will be satin, with lace over the bodice and then this great bordered lace on the skirt.  She chose ivory to match with her great-grandmother's pearls.  She's the only girl on her dad's side of the family, so those pearls are really special to her!  (Of course, I don't have the pearls pictured! Sorry!)

Now that we have the design and fit somewhat finalized, (I say somewhat, because the beauty of making a custom dress is that it can be tweaked all along the way), I will transfer the fit adjustments to the pattern I made, then I can begin to work on cutting and assembling the dress out of the final satin fabric.

I will keep you posted!!

(I think she looks pretty happy!)

Paper Flowers

One of my best girlfriends is happily planning her wedding for next summer. She has a terrific sense of style, and she is totally infusing her personality into her wedding! No run-of-the-mill decor for her. One her ideas that I am most enamored with is paper flowers! At first, I was skeptical, but now that I've seen some great ideas, I'm completely won over! She plans on carrying a paper bouquet (as well as her bridesmaids) and having paper boutonnières for the guys.
Picture
I am enchanted with this purple and white paper bouquet that I found on Etsy! I love the different shapes of the flowers and the fact that it's made of music sheets! I think it's so pretty and I think it'd be perfectly fitting in the hands of a bride! One of my friend's predominant colors in her wedding will be purple, so I think this is a great inspiration bouquet for her!

Picture
I love how whimsical these paper bouquets are! They look like they stepped right out of Alice in Wonderland! And they're made out of books!  I saw them over on OffBeat Bride, in a great UK wedding. (I love the blue dress! What a skirt!!!) (Image via here.)
